Frequently asked questions
- Which state has the highest IFTA diesel rate in 3rd quarter 2026?
- California at $0.9790 a gallon, then Pennsylvania ($0.7410) and Illinois ($0.7380).
- Which states have an IFTA surcharge?
- For diesel in 3Q2026: Kentucky ($0.1050), Virginia ($0.1430). Surcharge (surtax) lines for Kentucky, Indiana and Virginia: the taxable gallons of the tax line, zero tax-paid gallons, so the surcharge is due on every taxable gallon and is never a credit.
- Why do some states show no rate?
- The matrix lists no diesel rate for OR and no gasoline rate for CA, ID, IN, ME, MT, NH, OR, VT this quarter. The footnotes on the IFTA matrix page explain each case; the miles still go on the return.
- Are Canadian rates in US dollars?
- The matrix prints both: a US$ per US gallon row and a CA$ per litre row for every jurisdiction. The tables here use US$ per gallon, as a US-based return does.
